For anyone familiar with role play pertaining to Gor, Ancient Rome, or Medieval Fantasy, the store Tamiron Forge is no stranger. From detailed silks to togas to Satyrs, Tamiron Landar has made an art of all things fantastical. I recently had the honor and privilege of sitting down with Tamiron to see just what it is that stirs his imagination!
Ahn: Thank you for agreeing to sit down with me for the interview. I know you know this, but I’ve been a long time fan of your work so this is rather exciting for me. What brought you to SL on August 23, 2008?
Tamiron: A friend mentioned it and I thought ah hell why not, sounds interesting enough. Little did I know it would be so addicting, lol.
Ahn: How did you come up with the name “Tamiron”?
Tamiron: I was sitting on my PC trying to come up with some cool sounding names, but all the cool sounding names I wanted were already taken (what a surprise, lol), so I called up my niece, cause I knew she was on SL too and had mentioned it before, to get some inspiration. She came up with the name actually. It sounded really cool, but when I saw it in writing I thought that’s a girl name, but she insisted it was a guy name from some book she had read. As far as I know, I am the only Tamiron in SL, hahaha.
Ahn: I’m the only SkinTrader in SL too. Hoorah for the unique!
Ahn: How soon after joining did you know you were meant to create clothing and why this particular fashion genre?
Tamiron: I did at first what everybody was doing when they get on SL. I left no party out, went to all the nude places, all the sex stuff – you name it I probably did it, lol. I tinkered around with my shapes a lot, always trying to find just that right look, you know? I got a lot of compliments on my avatar. Although looking back now, I am thinking dreadful (smile), but I was ask so many times, “Do you sell your shapes?” Never crossed my mind though to make and sell shapes. After a while I got bored with all the parties and clubs enough for me to find an interest in role play and I absolutely loved it! So here I was role playing away, when a friend suggested to make some jewelry that could be sold on this RP system we had back then in the sim, for a more realistic RP. Even though I was already for 2 years in SL, I had no idea how to create anything other then a basic box, lol. Needless to say, I had a lot of help from friends. Thank the Gods for friends! So I started to make some crude pieces of jewelry, as I was a merchant in this RP sim. A lot of girls liked what I made and came by to buy, then I thought hey, why not try to sell those for real? and so it all started.
Ahn: How did you learn to create as you do? What do you use for inspiration?
Tamiron: Well, as soon as I learned the basics for creating, I was all too eager to try out what I was seeing in my mind. I always knew I wanted to create something functional but at the same time very sexy for RP. There is lots and lots of sexy things out there for women, but nothing that I liked for men. I went shopping a lot at Gay sims when I was new to SL, you could say I got lots of my inspiration from there, but of course there was virtually nothing for RP to find. At that time I had of course like just about every other person in SL, created an alt or two. I was RPing in a place where I played a Barbarian and that is when I knew that tribal clothing (savage-barbarian-fur-leather-rope) was going to be a big part of my creations.
Ahn: Which is easier – creating for men or for women and why?
Tamiron: Most certainly for men. I had no idea how to do a basic template, or a shirt layer, so all my stuff was made with prims and women’s breast created quite a challenge for me with prims, lol – until I got smart and found some sculpt tops I could use for my creations.
Ahn: What would you say has been your biggest obstacle and what did you do to overcome it?
Tamiron: My biggest obstacle would have to be Photoshop. I know a lot of people will snicker here, but sitting and trying to do some clothing layers is just such a challenge for me. I would rather do 100 prim outfits then one shirt layer, lol. A very good friend of mine, Camellia, she helped me a lot with the Photoshop basics. So now I try to do more clothing layers as well, but just so I don’t forget everything she taught me, lol.
Ahn: Do you have a favorite design/shape that you’ve done?
Tamiron: Every shape/look I do is my very favorite, until I do another one, lol. I think we all do and that’s a good thing. If I’d had to pick, I would probably go with the Khan set, the Drokhan warrior or Amun.
Ahn: Is there anything else you would like to do or try that you haven’t yet? If so, what?
Tamiron: Oh boy, there is still so much I haven’t tried yet and still wanna try. My dream is to make skins (coughs) but looking at my favorite skin designers, there is really nothing I could do to make a more perfect skin then they already do, so why mess with perfection? lol
Ahn: What’s coming up for Tamiron Forge?
Tamiron: I never know myself where the wind will blow me next, but I still have enough ideas and things I wanna try out to keep me busy for while, lol.
Ahn: Thank you so very much for taking the time to sit with me and let me pick your brain. I’m SO excited to see what you come up with next!
Tamiron: Thank you so much for this opportunity, it was a true honor and pleasure.
